The Cove

Church of the Occoquan Valley, Woodbridge, Virginia

The dictionary defines a “cove” as “a small sheltered bay in the shoreline of a sea, river, or lake.” When a storm blows in, it can be a life-saving place of refuge and calm. That’s what we’d like to be for the people of Woodbridge and Lorton--the people of the Occoquan Valley.

We all have to deal with storms in our lives. Sometimes they are financial storms, when we find ourselves out of work or dealing with too much debt. Sometimes they are relational storms, when our marriage seems to be breaking down or we just don’t know how to relate to our children or parents. Sometimes they are moral or emotional storms, when we’re confronted with tough choices involving teen pregnancy or divorce or loneliness or guilt. Sometimes they are physical storms, when we face illness, or don’t know what to do about substance abuse by ourselves or people we love, or when someone is dying. At least some of these storms come into everyone’s life, and when they do, we want help in coping, support in deciding, and the knowledge that there are people who love us unconditionally to whom we can turn.

The Church of the Occoquan Valley--also known as The Cove--is full of people who have dealt with the same storms you deal with, and have come through them because they’ve had one another, and even more importantly, have had an incredible Shelter from the storms, Jesus Christ. The Bible says of Him that “He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble” (Psalm 27:5). He will do the same for you. We invite you to come meet us, and to allow us and our Lord to offer you the help, support, and love that we all need to get through the storms of life.
